This month we focus on one of our favourite French artist from the past century: Claude Grosperrin. Claude Grosperrin was born in 1936 in Charenton, France. From the age of twenty he studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris under the artist Maurice Brianchon.
The art critic Gerald Schurr said of his work "in the variety of themes treated, a rare unity of style thanks undoubtedly to the quality of light which bathes all his compositions, and which sometimes remind one of Brasilier. A great strength, a powerful rhythm animate his stud farm, his racetracks, his seashores, treated in a deliberately limited range of tones."

Artist of the Month
Gustave Cariot (1872-1950)
French artist Gustave Cariot was born in the Marais region of Paris in 1872. His father was a luggage-maker and encouraged Gustave to become his apprentice but the young Gustave insisted on pursuing an artistic career. As a youth he dedicated his spare time to drawing and sketching various views of the city and countryside. Cariot went on to join the Société des Artistes Independants and began to exhibit in major Parisian exhibitions. In addition to showing with the Salon Nationale des Beaux-Arts, Cariot exhibited in the Salon d'Automne and the Salon d'Hiver.
